Departure from Ecolodge La Palmeraie after breakfast. To reach the desert, you’ll follow the Drâa Valley and its oasis, the largest in Morocco, 260 km long, 8 km wide and with 3 million palm trees. This valley is also known as the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs, the ancient caravan route between Timbuktu and Marrakech. Many historic sites and monuments can be visited. Your first visit will be to the 16th-century Ksour (fortified village) of Tamnougalt in Agdz.
Then you’ll discover the traditional Berber pottery village of Tamgroute, with its handicraft workshops. A tour of the workshops will give you an insight into the potters’ work, from clay preparation to pottery firing.
Afternoon arrival at M’hamid, the last village before the sandy desert. From here, you will cross the desert for 60 km to reach the Chegaga dunes in the late afternoon.
At the bivouac, you’ll be warmly welcomed with a cup of tea. The bivouac at Chegaga is very comfortable, with a breathtaking view of the dunes.
Your private tent is a caidal tent, for maximum protection from sandstorms, with good bedding and a shared bathroom.
At sunset, you’ll set off on a camel ride to watch the sun set. You can also try your hand at sand boarding.
Dinner and overnight stay in a private tent.
